OPUS 2 - St Luke's Episcopal Church, Montclair, NJ

(Watch Videos of Opus 2 Below)

M&O Opus Two replaced an E.M. Skinner organ which, in its earlier years, was an impressive and large instrument laid out in huge, very deep organ chambers. Over the years, its Skinner distinction began to fade as various builders made changes to it and, like so many organs do, it eventually "lost its way" and fell into disrepair. A search for a replacement began. Fortuitously, news of a remarkable new instrument at Trinity Wall Street made its way across the Hudson and the committee went to Trinity for a look. The result: Opus Two.
Perhaps our most "Skinneresque" M&O organ, Opus Two includes three stops which we were able to capture and reintroduce from the ranks that remained operable in St. Luke's Skinner organ, notably a beautiful 8' Flugelhorn, an 8' Bombarde, and the Harp. Our practice of preserving worthy ranks from our clients' extant pipe organs began with St. Luke's and continues today. It provides a way for our customers to retain an audible connection to their organ history, not unlike archival photographs taken prior to a building renovation.

In 2014, Opus 2 was expanded to include a complete second organ speaking from the back of the church, similar to Trinity Wall Street's specification. Additional audio channels were added, as well as a new Herald Trumpet stop, which speaks with commanding authority from the clerestory areas near the chancel.
